Established in 1971, N.V. Havenbeheer Suriname (HBS) is an autonomous but state-owned limited liability company, charged with the management of the nation’s two main ports, namely the Dr. Jules Sedney Port of Paramaribo and the Port of Nieuw Nickerie.

With over 50 years of experience in managing the nation’s largest port, we have been awarded with the prestigious Ludlow Steward award for being the best Multi-Purpose Port of the Northern hemisphere of South America and the Caribbean. As a three times winner of the Ports Award Competition of the Caribbean Shipping Association, HBS also won the prize for port efficiency.

Together with its stakeholders we are on a strategic course to elevate the port of Paramaribo to the most excellent port in the Caribbean.
