Michel Amafo, married to Ursula has three adult children. He is also a Christian preacher. He worked for the Suriname Port Administration for more than 3 years and is now with the Maritime Authority Suriname for more than 22 years. Michel has written extensively in the Suriname Legal Journal on maritime subjects. He holds a masters in International Maritime Law from the International Maritime Institute in Malta and a master from the Anton the Kom University of Suriname. He is the present Chairman of the Caribbean Port State Control Committee and the Regional Meeting of Directors and Heads of Maritime Administrations of the Caribbean Region.
