Rudolf T. Elias
Mr. Rudolf Elias was born in the Netherlands and raised in Suriname. After finishing VWO (college) he went to Holland to study at the University of Technology Eindhoven where he became a Master in Business Administration and Civil/Construction Engineering.
Mr. Elias worked for Ballast Nedam International (BNI) for the first twenty years of his career and did projects that varied from hotels and office buildings to Harbors, Jetty’s and large Bridges.
After BNI, he joined BHP Billiton as Project Director and Vice President Development, executing large and complex projects (500 M USD+) while leading project teams in Australia and Montreal (Canada).
In 2009 he joined Staatsolie Maatschappij Suriname N.V. First as a Director of Development and later as the Project Director of the newly build Complex Oil Refinery (1B USD+ project). Initially he was in charge of leading the Engineering Project team in Rome (Italy) and later the construction on site at Tout Lui Faut – Suriname.
In 2015 he became the CEO of Staatsolie with the task to transform Staatsolie from a centralized organization towards a world class asset-based structure to become the partner of choice for the IOC’s to Explore, Develop and Operate potential offshore oil fields. When retiring as CEO of Staatsolie in June 2021 Suriname had 6 offshore Oil & Gas discoveries.
Immediately after retirement he joined Ernst & Young (EY) to assist and advise on Oil & Gas developments and also to explore possibilities in renewables. He specifically advises in the field of the Carbon & Biodiversity Credits to be earned with the Rain Forest of Suriname now and in the future. Lately he is spending much of his energy with presentations for political parties and other organizations to ensure the public becomes aware of the consequences of oil wealth and the risk of a resource curse.
Mr. Elias is the Chair of the Supervisory Board of Staatsolie Maatschappij Suriname N.V.
