Grenada's Hydrocarbon- Technical Working Group
V. Nazim Burke is a Grenadian Atorney-at-Law, Economist, Former University Lecturer, Former Polician and Consultant. Over the past 35 years, he has acquired extensive praccal experience working in these various fields, as well as substanal leadership and managerial experience.
Apart from his many years of work experience in both Grenada and North America (Canada), he possesses significant knowledge and experience related to the challenges and imperaves of the other OECS and CARICOM Countries and Small Island Developing States (SIDS) in general.
Between 2008 and 2013, he served as Grenada’s Minister of Finance, Planning, Economy, Energy and Cooperaves; and as its Minister of Foreign Trade of Grenada between July 2008 and July 2009. In addion, he was a member of Grenada’s Parliament- both the Upper and Lower Houses- for fieen years- between 2003 and 2018.
His extensive knowledge and experience in Law, Economics, Internaonal Development (including Development Finance), Internaonal Trade, Public Finance Management and Energy is combined with years of knowledge and praccal experience in organizaonal leadership, management, policy development, parliamentary procedure and teaching and training.
He possesses a sound command of English- both writen and spoken- and a basic working knowledge of Spanish. Public speaking and technical wring have featured prominently in his professional career. He is an experienced negoator.
In recent years, he has developed a very keen interest in the implementaon of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
In October 2023, he was appointed by the Grenadian Government to head a Technical Working Group established by the Cabinet of Ministers to undertake a comprehensive assessment of Grenada’s hydrocarbon potenal and, if found to be commercially viable, devise a strategy and acon plan to explore, develop and moneze it for the benefit of the cizens and the patrimony of the naon.
