SAB Launches Special Edition Borgoe Rum to Celebrate 50 Years of CARICOM

On Thursday, 20 June 2024, SAB Managing Director Steven Ma Ajong presented the first bottle of the special Borgoe 10YR rum to Minister Albert Ramdin. This unique blend was created in honor of CARICOM's 50th anniversary.
Suriname Alcoholic Beverages N.V. (SAB), Suriname’s national rum producer, has developed an exclusive limited-edition Borgoe 10YR rum to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM).
The first bottle was officially handed over on 20 June 2024 by SAB’s Managing Director, Steven Ma Ajong, to Minister Albert Ramdin of Foreign Affairs, International Business and International Cooperation (BIBIS), during a ceremony at the Rumhuis. Also present were Minister Rishma Kuldipsingh (Economic Affairs), Ambassador Virjanand Depoo (Guyana), and Consul General Jean Claude Lappe (Haiti).
This 10-year aged blend is part of a regional collaboration where 13 rum producers across CARICOM member states – all affiliated with WIRSPA (West Indies Rum & Spirits Producers Association) – created distinctive rum expressions representing their national heritage. According to Ma Ajong, SAB’s master blender selected a symphony of aged rums, including a rare Pot Still rum, to craft this smooth and refined expression.
Minister Ramdin praised the initiative, stating that rum is a cultural hallmark of Suriname, and that SAB has truly captured the spirit of the nation with this special blend. “We will present this rum during the CARICOM 50th anniversary celebrations in Grenada and are excited to see the reactions,” he said.
The collection of all 13 commemorative rums will be showcased to CARICOM heads of government during their summit in July 2024.
