Telecommunication Authority Suriname (TAS)
Stand: S12
- | Yes
The Telecommunications Authority Suriname (TAS) is the government body responsible for enforcing telecommunications laws in Suriname. As technology rapidly advanced, the outdated 1945 Telegraph and Telephone Act could no longer meet modern demands. To support liberalization and allow competition beyond state-owned TELESUR, new legislation was introduced in 2004. TAS was officially established as an independent regulatory authority to manage public responsibilities, such as licensing, and to ensure fairness as private telecom companies entered the market. TAS helps guarantee quality, accessible, and affordable services for all, supports economic development, and fosters innovation by maintaining a modern telecommunications infrastructure across Suriname.
